Basketballers Qualify for Sports Central!

South Tyneside Hoops4health Basketball Tournament 2015
Thursday 26th November

Four teams from St. Bede’s took part in the eagerly anticipated, annual Newcastle Eagles Basketball tournament. There were 57 teams involved from across the borough at Temple Park.

During the day, it was fantastic to walk around the Sports hall watching our teams play some fantastic basketball. The comradery from our teams was superb, while they were all fully committed during their games. Two of our teams topped their morning group, while another qualified in second place, to reach the last 16 knock-out stage.

Two St. Bede’s sides were paired against one another in the Quarter-Finals. Daniel Ellwood’s team prevailed after a nail biting penalty shoot-out. Elsewhere, baskets from Megan Tooley (2), Jake Waters (2), Joseph Wood, Joshua Camm and great defence from Grace Knowles meant that they beat St. Oswald’s A 12-0 in their game.

As we arrived at the last 8, St. Bede’s were the only school to have two teams left in the competition. Naturally, they were paired against each other in the Play-Off Finals, which meant that we were guaranteed a St. Bede’s representative side in the finals at Sports Central, Newcastle.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and the great parental support that we enjoyed at Temple Park. The team consisting of Grace Knowles, Megan Tooley, Joseph Wood, Joshua Camm and Jake Waters will now play at Sports Central on Friday 15th January at 6pm.

It would be wonderful if we can get a lot of children and family members from our school community to attend this prestigious event. All tickets to watch St. Bede’s and the Newcastle Eagles will be free. It will be a fun filled and exciting night for St. Bede’s school community!

This promises to be a special occasion, where children who supported the school in previous Hoops4health Finals night’s will now be stepping up to play themselves.
