Josh Camm, Vice Captain for the night had his full box of tricks on display as he inspired two great performances; which included a stunning hat-trick against one of our title rivals Monkton Juniors. Two victories fired our boys to the top of the Snowball League, as we head into the winter break from league football.
The first match of the night saw us face a determined Hadrian Primary. They defended resolutely, but we still created chances only to find their goalkeeper in top form. We continued to press in search of a winner in the second half, but could not find a way past their shot stopper. With moments remaining, Camm’s pace and dummy outfoxed the previously imperious keeper; before he unleashed a thunderous strike from an acute angle into the far corner. This moment of brilliance sealed a narrow victory; which had been well deserved for our relentless pursuit of a breakthrough goal.
Our second match saw Jude Connor make his full league debut against title rivals Monkton. This was a difficult fixture, but Jude alongside Gavin Salin and goalkeeper Jake Clarke were excellent at the back. Captain Jake Waters was the dominant force in the middle of the park, well supported by Hayden Buckham and Joseph Wood. Josh Camm gave us an early lead, with his quick feet side stepping two defenders before smashing the ball past an advancing keeper! Monkton to their credit fought back strongly and forced several corners; eventually equalising when one curled into the top corner. The Monkton support were in raptures and it was potentially a wobbly moment.
However, the St. Bede’s reponse was instant! A flowing move involving Waters and Wood set Camm away down the right; he cut in past two defenders with lightning quick touches before drilling another unstoppable finish into the back of the net. In midfield in the second half the versatile and increasingly influential Will Watson provided some added energy. Josh Camm completed a memorable hat-trick when he picked the pocket of a defender before expertly rounding the goalkeeper to seal a key early season victory.
Last year we made a late charge to claim the title; but this season we have started in outstanding form to become the early table toppers with a 100% record. The challenge now is to see if we can maintain our form, and lead the Snowball League from start to finish. Well done to all of the boys who performed so well, even in the absence of the influential Nick Campbell.
Similarly, our parents were superb as they came out in great numbers to support the boys with such great positivity!
The league resumes in March, with everything to play for!
