SAFE, SECURE AND READY TO LEARN

Footballers' Christmas No.1!

The football team have been in great form recently, winning three games in a row in the Snowball League. The results sent us to the top of the league (on goal difference) for the first time this season.

The boys started with a high energy 3-0 victory against second top Marine Park, who had beaten us earlier in the season. However, there was no be no repeat outcome this time around. St. Bede’s made a blistering start and scored two goals in the opening four minutes through Jude Hill and Alyasa Uddin. The opposition never really recovered, and Joseph Wood added a third.

Our second match saw us come up against a very determined Holy Trinity team who held us 0-0 at half time. In the second half, we were grateful for a fine early save from Matthew Sharpe; before young Jack Murphy (Y4) rose like a salmon to head a corner into the ‘top bin’ with a stunning effort. Captain Joseph Wood sealed the win after a strong run, as he shone in a more advanced role.

In our crucial final game of 2017, we faced the league leaders St. Mary’s who had a 100% win record. However, we started with real intent knowing that we were three points adrift in the title race. St. Bede’s proved to be too strong as our intricate attacking play saw us run out 4-0 winners. Alyasa Uddin struck an excellent hat-trick, as he is proving to be a real ‘fox in the box’ this season; while Joseph Wood chipped in with another goal from midfield, well deserved for his selfless running.

Well done to the whole team who saw go through the last 3 games without conceding a goal. The results put us top of the league for Christmas, due to our superior goal difference over St. Mary’s. Our destiny is back in our own hands and we will look forward to the second half of the season.

Thank you to the players who have been fantastic, and also the parents who have been supporting the children, while braving the elements!

The next matches are on 22nd February and 8th March.
