Science Afternoon

Year 2 enjoyed a fun afternoon of Science last week - they created an explosion with Diet Coke and Mentos sweets; made Oobleck using cornflour and water and made an erupting volcano using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

Here's some photos of the children watching the Diet Coke and Mentos Geyser.

The children loved making Oobleck or using its scientific name 'Non Newtonian fluid'.  Using cornflour, water and food colouring the children made a gooey substance that acts as a solid when pressure is applied to the mixture and a liguid when left alone.

Here they are playing with the Oobleck and getting very messy!

Year 2 also tried to make slime using a variety of materials but none of them achieved the desired result.  If anyone can find a better recipe that is tried and tested please let us know.
