South Tyneside Catholic Schools Skipping Champions 2017!!
Thursday 9th February
Well done to the St. Bede’s skippers, who performed brilliantly in the South Tyneside Catholic Schools Skipping Competition. It was wonderful to see everyone’s determined efforts; while performing with a smile and encouraging each other throughout.
We achieved four Golds out of the ten individual events; where we particularly excelled in the highly skilled events of Pretzel and Cross Over. In addition, we registered an amazing four Golds and a Silver in the five team events; which speaks volumes for how well the children have worked together. The outstanding performances meant that we were crowned overall District Champions! The skippers will now progress to a Tyne and Wear final later in the year.
The children thoroughly deserved their success, after showing a commitment to improve their skills, even in their own time. They cheerfully practised during playtimes, lunch breaks and many even skipped with their parents after school or on weekends.
Amazingly, half of the squad was made up of Year 3’s, which makes the achievement extra special, as they were competing against Year 4’s. All of the children will receive a Team Champions medal in a forthcoming assembly, as well as their individual certificates.
Collectively we had a lot of fun in the build up to the event, learning and developing more skipping skills than ever before. Meanwhile, Mrs. McVittie choreographed an innovative Gold standard Skip Dance! At Temple Park it was uplifting to observe the children’s visible confidence and enjoyment in being able to perform in front of so many people. I am certain that you will be brilliant representatives of South Tyneside in the forthcoming Regional Finals.
Once again, our school received inspirational parental & family support at the competition, which was wonderful for the team. Finally, congratulations to the skippers on a stunning team performance; we are all so proud of you!
