The Girls District Cricket tournament was finally able to be played after the postponement in early June. There was the opportunity for lots of younger girls to play today, with most of year 5 and 6 at the beach. Luckily, there was also the chance to bring a Y3/4 team to play in the Year 5 festival taking place at the same venue. The weather was dry and bright, so a youthful, enthusiastic squad of 30, in full whites made their merry way to Whitburn CC.
It turned out to be a fun and successful day all round. Both girls teams played well, while the A team won the whole tournament becoming District Champions! They beat quality sides from Whitburn and Mortimer among others, as they managed to win all their games. To do it with such a young team (years 3-5) against year 6 girls teams, was a superb achievement!!
Meanwhile the Y3/4 team also had a lot of success as they reached the final of their competition. They similarly competed against children who were at least a year older. It was obvious that we have some exciting young cricketers in the school for the future.
Finally, it was wonderful to see the children cheered on all day by so many family members. Some of the group pictures at the end of the tournaments were lovely!
