With the cold weather setting in, there was no better time for Year 1 to start their winter topic. The children have been learning about the changes to the plants and flowers, as well as the local wildlife. They found out about how some animals hibernate and some birds migrate to warmer climates. They were however, concerned about some of the smaller birds that were struggling to find food in the icy conditions.
The children decided that they would like to help them, so we looked on the RSPB’s website and found out how to make a simple bird feeder, using lard and birdseed.
The children followed the instructions very carefully and have even written their own instructions for other children to use.
The spirit of Christmas has truly inspired Year 1 to think of others, including the local wildlife.
