Our Y3 Rock Geologists flew to the 'Planet Haribo' where they sorted and classified the different sweets discovered. Graduating from sweets, they quickly turned their attention to a variety of natural rock (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) and analysed their different properties.
Y3 used microscopes for a closer look at their finer particles. In various experiments they added water using pipettes to different rocks to see if they were permeable (absorb water), performed buoyancy tests (sink or float) and investigated durability. Children also got to inspect volcanic rock from Mount Vesuvius in Naples, Italy.
I'm convinced that we have young scientists of the future in this group!
